In more than 18,000 communities across the U.S., more than 75,000 Susan G. Komen for the Cure® volunteers work to help fund breast cancer education, screening and treatment projects for those who need it most. Last year, Komen for the Cure Affiliates—working in concert with local organizations—awarded more than $93 million in needs-based community grants. That's in addition to the many millions Komen invests each year in promising research. .
Up to 75 percent of the net income from our Affiliate stays right here in our nine-county service region to fund breast cancer screening and treatment as well as projects that address barriers to screening and treatment. In fact, since 2000, Komen Twin Tiers has awarded $874,000 right here in our region for breast health initiatives administered by local non-profit organizations. The remaining 25 percent of the net income raised by Komen Twin Tiers supports the national Komen for the Cure Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world.
Any eligible not-for-profit organization may apply for a grant that supports our 2013-2014 Funding Priorities.
